NARR works with federal government agencies, national addiction and recovery organizations,with our state-level recovery housing organizations, and with state addiction services agencies in pursuit of better and more accessible recovery housing opportunities. NARR was founded in 2011 by a group of organizations and individuals with deep recovery housing expertise, and a goal of developing and promoting best practices in the operation of gratitude house sober living residences. Level 1 https://ecosoberhouse.com/s offer supportive housing in a community-based peer environment. These recovery residences are commonly known as sober homes and are most often found in single-family residences. Oversight of residents is peer-based within the home; residents are self-monitoring and accountable to each other. The primary criterion for this living environment is a willingness to be abstinent from mood-altering substances. Self-help (e.g., 12-step) meetings and outside recovery support services are encouraged or required.
Through NARR, recovery residences are now categorized under different levels based on the type as well as the duration and intensity of support that they offer. The provided residential services span from peer-based community models (found in all recovery residences) to medical and counseling services in recovery residences offering higher levels of support. The level titles and descriptions are designed to be simple, descriptive, and intuitive. Delineating recovery residence levels allows the consumer to identify and match the service need to the appropriate level of the residence. This type of recovery residence provides peer-based services plus life skills and clinical programming. It is most often aligned or attached with a licensed treatment provider, and overseen by an appropriately credentialed and qualified management team.

Recovery residences are privately-owned homes or complexes that provide housing for adults with a substance use disorder (SUD) or co-occurring disorder. They serve individuals that are currently receiving outpatient SUD services or are enrolled in recovery services. Level 2 residences are characterized by a community-based environment supervised by a senior resident, house manager, or staff member.

Praxis staff provides an array of on-site services and have established community based linkages to help families stabilize their lives and ultimately return to independent living. On-site services include case management, housing placement assistance, programming for children, recreation space, health/mental health services, screening/assessment/interventions for substance use disorders, and employment counseling. Off-site service linkages include primary healthcare, vocational training, employment placement, GED instruction, conflict mediation, and legal services. While recovery residences vary widely in structure, all are centered on peer support and a connection to services that promote long-term recovery. Recovery housing benefits individuals in recovery by reinforcing a substance-free lifestyle and providing direct connections to other peers in recovery, mutual support groups and recovery support services.
Promoting High Quality Recovery Residences in San Diego County
They provide an increased level of structure and oversight and often utilize a clinical component of some kind, i.e. outpatient or aftercare services from a collaborative entity. This level offers life-skill-oriented programming in-house or in cooperation with other service providers. Guidance is provided for the development of life skills and recovery-sustaining activities, such as employment, physical health, and self-help. Case management and clinical services are contracted in, or accessed in the outside community.
